Farah Zerin Binti: Water is basic need of human being but the main water supplier in Dhaka city Wasa is unable to provide services to all over the city. There is almost 1.5 crore people in Dhaka city who needs 240 crore liter water. Whereas Wasa is able produce 210 crore litter water. But not all of it is drinkable. Residents have to pay extra money to purity the water. Even after paying the bill to Wasa they are not served with proper service. Regarding this fact some companies are boasting about their purified water. but in the case of water purifiers and filter. People have no idea if the filter works. “Every year we face the same problem. Wasa has not taken proper action for a sustainable water supply. For which we have to buy drinking water from outside. It takes 50/60 TK for each jar.” said Mr. Mostofa Kamal a resident in Dhandmondi 15. According to the sources Wasa produce 78% from the underground. And other 22% from the Sheetlokkha river. But the residents keep complaining either the water supply is so low that it’s barley full fills their daily basic needs or is it unsuitable for use. As a result, the residents are experiencing miserable days. Most of the patient are suffering from water base disease. Sidratul munira residing in Mohammadpur said that they are using pa for drinking water but because of the irregular supply of water. they had to faith in filter water on jar as a result its coast double. Taking advantage of the failure of Dhaka Wasa. Filter water business is taking over places. from house school college office even the small tea shop everywhere they use so called filter water on blue jar. But they are really purified water? Residents are in doubtful and frustrated situation. There are few factories in Karwan Bazar, Mohammadpur, Old town which claims to purify the water. But traders in such business did not obtain any approval by from BSTI.

Mr. Saimon Hossain filter water supplier in Karwan Bazar said “this is the best & purest water” but when he was asked how it’s been purified he could not answer instead he said “this water is demanded people like my water & they have never complained about it.” he claims to have license for this business. Some are putting their faith in Unilever LTD. water purifier called “pure it” it claims to clean their dirtiest water & it is affordable.
