Nobo Kumar Bhadra is a known name in the
world of rickshaw painters. He was born in 1964 in Shakhari Bazar, Old town,
Dhaka, Bangladesh. Poverty of his family did not allow him to continue his
studies. He dropped out of school when he was in grade 6 and started working
with his father. Today he is a full-time staff in Alliance Francaise de Dhaka
and continues to paint.
The exhibition was curated and organized
by, Priyanka Chowdhury and Farhan Tanvir Rafith. When asked about how the
exhibition came to life she said “ This was achallange for us as this was the
first time we were curating a show and moreover on a budget.
Nobo Kumar Bhadra’s regular artworks
usually involve portrayal of commercial cinema culture of Bangladesh of which
took a shift towards drawing animals in 2013.He used vibrant colors to attract
attention, he even alters the original colors of his subjects to usually bright
ones to make them stand out more and make people wonder.
The name of the exhibition is “Tarunno” or
“Youth” as the artist wants the young population to be conscious about this
certain art form so that they help the form to restore it to its previous
stature.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Rickshaw
art pioneer R. K. Das, CEO of EMK Center, M. K. Aref and Director of Alliance
Française de Dhaka M. Bruno Plasse. Prominent artist and researcher Shawon
Akand was also present and gave a small speech during the opening ceremony.
The event also includes a workshop where
Nobo Kumar will teach how to do Rickshaw Art to the participants which is
scheduled to take place on the 21st December. Anyone interested to
